This role is aligned to Berner Food and Beverage’s strategic direction to achieve safe, compliant and environmentally sustainable operations across the organization.
The EHS Director provides specific directions to the EHS Supervisor/Manager and EHS Technician to support a comprehensive safe operations initiative, driving people and workplace safety as well as environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance.
The initiative is centered on Zero Harm, Zero Tolerance, and Felt Leadership, and it requires managing risk through systems and processes to be as low as reasonably practicable, formally monitoring and auditing safety performance for continual improvement, and ensuring the organization does not accept abnormal or unacceptable work practices as the norm. Responsibilities
: The success of the EHS Director is primarily measured by the integration of safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability into all business aspects, the quality of comprehensive management systems, and the ongoing improvement of business results. Providing meaningful safety-related information and actively participating in discussions to achieve business objectives.
Responsible and accountable for coaching and providing directions to the EHS Supervisor/Manager, EHS Technician, and company leaders to sustain a world-class EHS initiative. Developing and implementing safe operation initiatives that provide effective solutions to current and changing business needs. Develop, coordinate, and implement safety training programs, including a variety of safety training classes throughout the fiscal year to support employee awareness, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Leading and managing the EHS Supervisor/Manager to develop their potential and strengthen the influential leadership of EHS and Environmental programs. Ensuring environmental management systems are effective, within regulatory compliance and company maintains all environmental permit
Requirements
(wastewater, water, storm water, emissions, hazardous materials, etc). Leading a continuous improvement process for safe operations of all systems and sustainability initiatives. Ensuring formal, comprehensive audit processes are completed for both Safety and Environmental
Requirements
Ensuring all facilities are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. Providing information and participating in the budgeting process to ensure adequate resources are available to support company safety and environmental business objectives. Maintaining contact with pertinent regulatory agencies. Maintaining incident and injury statistics and safety trends. Ensuring safety measurement consistency among operations, including work process and output.
Providing pertinent safety information to the organization, such as incident reports, hazard information, and off-job safety topics. Participating in and facilitating external audits as required. Customer liaison for environmental sustainability and employee safety

Responsibilities
Degree in Environmental and Safety or a related field. 5-10 years of experience within a manufacturing environment preferred in safety and environmental systems.
