Junior Finance Consultant at Systemicjustice

Contract type: Consultancy (6 months)

Hours: Part-time – 24-32 hours per week

Rate: €40 per hour, inclusive of VAT

Location: Remote: open to candidates based anywhere in the EU or the UK

Start date: ASAP

Reports to: Interim Finance Manager

Applications: Reviewed on a rolling basis – early applications encouraged

About the role

Systemic Justice is looking for a Junior Finance Consultant to provide hands-on, practical support to our Interim Finance Manager during a busy period for the finance function. This is a part-time, remote consultancy suited to someone with a solid grounding in bookkeeping or junior accountancy who is comfortable working independently, managing routine financial processes accurately, and picking things up quickly.

The role is focused on the operational essentials: processing payments, organising financial documentation, managing credit card transactions, reconciling accounts, and supporting day-to-day bookkeeping. It is a great fit for someone early in their finance career who enjoys precise, well-organised work and wants exposure to the financial operations of a mission-driven organisation.

Key responsibilities

Prepare and process payments (vendor and consultant payments, reimbursements, and other outgoing transactions) in the banking system, ensuring accuracy and proper authorisation.

Maintain and organise financial documentation for all transactions, ensuring records are complete, correctly filed, and easy to retrieve.

Manage credit card transactions: collecting receipts, checking expense claims, and ensuring transactions are properly coded and documented.

Carry out regular bank and account reconciliations, identifying and flagging discrepancies promptly.

Support preparing monthly budget-vs-actual reports and dashboards.

Support compiling actuals and figures for annual budget planning.

Maintain supplier records and support maintaining the fixed assets register.

Support drafting grant expenditure reports for funders, for Interim Finance Manager review.

Support basic bookkeeping tasks, including data entry and transaction allocation in the accounting system (Business Central).

Assist with the preparation of supporting documentation for audits and funder reporting as needed.

Flag any issues, errors, or inconsistencies to the Interim Finance Manager in a timely manner.

Provide general administrative and financial support to the finance function as priorities require.

Profile

A background in bookkeeping, finance assistance, or junior accountancy, gained through study, training, or work experience.

Comfortable with the fundamentals of financial transaction processing, basic reconciliation, and document management.

Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to repetitive financial tasks.

Able to work independently and reliably in a remote setting, managing your own time within agreed working hours.

Comfortable using accounting and spreadsheet software; experience with Business Central is a plus but not required.

Good written English; additional European languages are an asset but not essential.

Based in the EU or the UK, with the right to work as an independent consultant in your country of residence.

A genuine interest in supporting the work and mission of Systemic Justice.

Practical details

This is a consultancy engagement, not an employment contract. The successful candidate will need to invoice Systemic Justice as a self-employed consultant or via their own company, in line with the regulations of their country of residence.

24-32 hours per week, with possibility of additional hours during peak periods. Hours are scheduled flexibly across the week, in agreement with the Interim Finance Manager.

Fully remote: candidates will need a reliable internet connection and their own equipment.

Term of 6 months.

How to apply

Please send a CV and a short cover note (no more than half a page) outlining your relevant experience and your availability. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submissions are encouraged – we may close the vacancy once a suitable candidate is found.
