West Midlands Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing the metropolitan county of West Midlands in England. Established on 1 April 1974, the force was created by merging several smaller constabularies, including Birmingham City Police and West Midlands Constabulary, and incorporates a diverse area covering approximately 348 square miles (900 km²) with a population of around 2.93 million residents. This includes significant urban areas such as Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton, as well as the Black Country.
