About Formula E

What began as a bold idea sketched on a napkin in 2011 has accelerated into the world's premier all-electric motorsport, fundamentally changing the face of racing. The journey of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship started when founders Alejandro Agag and Enrique Bañuelos established Formula E Holdings (FEH) in 2012. They won the tender from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) to create the globe's first international single-seater championship for electric cars. The initial years were a whirlwind of activity, focused on turning this ambitious concept into a tangible reality. FEH quickly commissioned 42 of the pioneering Spark-Renault SRT_01E cars and forged crucial partnerships with global brands like DHL and BMW to build a solid foundation for the series.

The starting grid was finally formed, and in September 2014, the lights went out for the first-ever E-Prix against the iconic backdrop of Beijing's Olympic Park. This inaugural race was more than just a competition; it was a statement that high-performance racing and sustainable technology could coexist. From that moment, Formula E's growth has been relentless. It swiftly attracted top automotive manufacturers like Jaguar, Porsche, and McLaren, who saw the championship as a vital laboratory for developing road-relevant electric vehicle technology. The sport's evolution was marked by significant technological leaps, most notably the introduction of the Gen2 car in 2018, which eliminated the need for mid-race car swaps with its enhanced battery life. By 2020, its rising stature was officially recognized when it was granted FIA World Championship status. Now featuring the even more advanced GEN3 EVO car, capable of breathtaking acceleration, and a calendar spanning the globe's most famous cities, Formula E continues its mission: to showcase thrilling entertainment while driving sustainable human progress and inspiring a global audience to embrace a cleaner future.
