About Immigrant Legal Resource Center

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) was founded in 1979 by Professor Bill Ong Hing, who recognized an unfulfilled need for legal services to represent immigrant clients during an era of increasingly complex legal and social challenges. What began as the Golden Gate Immigration Clinic has grown into one of the nation's premier sources for analysis of immigration law and policy. The ILRC seeks to improve immigration law and policy, expand the capacity of legal service providers, and advance immigrant rights.

The ILRC trains attorneys, paralegals, and community-based advocates who work with immigrants around the country. The organization informs the media, elected officials, and the public to shape effective and just immigration policy and law. Staff members work with grassroots immigrant organizations to promote civic engagement and social change. With headquarters in San Francisco and staff in Washington, D.C., Texas, Southern California, the Central Valley of California, and Washington state, the ILRC is a leading voice in immigrant rights advocacy.
