About MQ Health

MQ Health's journey began as a pioneering vision within Macquarie University, one of Australia's leading tertiary institutions. The seeds were sown with the ambitious plan in 2006 to construct the Macquarie University Hospital (MUH), a facility that would be the first of its kind in Australia, a private teaching hospital situated directly on a university campus. This vision became a reality in 2010 when MUH opened its doors, heralding a new era of integrated healthcare. The initial steps also included the establishment of the Australian School of Advanced Medicine (ASAM), laying the groundwork for a unique ecosystem where clinical practice and medical research could flourish side-by-side. However, the full integration of these elements was a journey of evolution. In 2015, a significant strategic shift occurred with the dissolution of ASAM and the creation of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, alongside Macquarie University Clinical Associates (MUCA). This restructuring was a deliberate move to more deeply intertwine the hospital's clinical operations with the university's academic and research missions.

It was in 2016 that the brand 'MQ Health' was officially launched, unifying the hospital, clinics, and the faculty under a single, cohesive identity. This marked the birth of Australia's first and only fully integrated academic health sciences centre, a trailblazer in the country's healthcare landscape. The model is built on the core principles of 'Heal, Learn, Discover', creating a symbiotic relationship where patient care is directly informed by cutting-edge research, and where the next generation of healthcare professionals are trained in a real-world clinical environment. This integrated approach allows for a continuous cycle of innovation, with clinicians, researchers, and educators collaborating to tackle complex health challenges and translate discoveries into tangible benefits for patients. The expansion continued in early 2020 with the inclusion of the departments of Psychology, Cognitive Science, and Linguistics into the newly amalgamated Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, further broadening MQ Health's clinical and research capabilities. Today, MQ Health stands as a testament to this forward-thinking vision, a dynamic hub of patient-centered care, transformative education, and world-renowned research, all under one roof on the Macquarie University campus.
