At Prime Roots, we are dedicated to providing an innovative solution that bridges the gap between meat lovers and those who are environmentally conscious. Founded by Kim Le and Josh Nixon during their time at UC Berkeley, Prime Roots was born out of a desire to create a more sustainable food system without sacrificing the delicious flavors we love. Our products are rooted in koji, a natural fungi that mimics the taste and texture of traditional meats. This approach offers a plant-based alternative that not only tastes great but also significantly reduces our environmental impact.

Our mission is to empower all types of eaters to enjoy their favorite deli classics, including a koji BLT and pork bánh mì, through our line of Koji-Meats. These alternatives use 92% less water and deliver 9 kg less CO2 emissions per kg produced than conventional meat. We understand the struggle to choose sustainable options, and we aim to make that choice easier for consumers. Prime Roots is committed to transparency, sustainability, and creating a delicious experience for everyone, proving that we can indeed have our meat and eat it too – without the ethical and environmental compromises of animal protein.
