About Radia

What began as a visionary idea by MIT aerospace engineer and serial entrepreneur Mark Lundstrom has evolved into one of the most ambitious projects in modern aviation and renewable energy. Founded in 2016 in Boulder, Colorado, Radia emerged from a critical realization: the single biggest obstacle to the widespread adoption of the most efficient, colossal wind turbines wasn't technology, but logistics. The blades required for these next-generation 'GigaWind' turbines are simply too large to be transported by existing road or rail infrastructure, effectively locking their potential away from onshore sites.

For seven years, Radia operated in stealth, meticulously designing a solution that defies convention: the WindRunner. This aircraft, set to be the largest in the world by volume, is engineered specifically to transport massive payloads—including turbine blades up to 105 meters long—directly to remote wind farm locations. By landing on short, semi-prepared dirt strips, the WindRunner bypasses the limitations of highway underpasses and turning radii. Today, Radia is not just building a plane; it is creating a new ecosystem for clean energy, partnering with aerospace giants like Leonardo and Aernnova to unlock gigawatts of wind capacity that were previously unreachable, fundamentally reshaping the economics of renewable power.
