This careful cultivation allowed Sound.xyz to attract notable artists like Snoop Dogg and Pussy Riot, generating significant revenue directly for creators even in its initial phases. The platform's core offering centered around 'listening parties,' where artists could debut new music as a limited set of NFTs, allowing fans to not only own a piece of the music but also to publicly showcase their early support and become part of an interactive community. As Sound.xyz evolved, it secured significant backing, including a $5 million seed round in late 2021 and a $20 million Series A funding round in mid-2023, led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z crypto), underscoring the growing confidence in its vision to build a more equitable music economy.
