About Trans Lifeline
We're Trans Lifeline, a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community. Founded in 2014, we were born from the knowledge that we deserve community-based support free from police and involuntary hospitalization. We envision a world where trans people have the connection, economic security, and care everyone needs and deserves – free of prisons and police.
Our Hotline is a peer support phone service run by trans people for our trans and questioning peers. We believe that some of the best support that trans people can receive is from other members of our community with shared lived experience. We're the only service in the country in which all operators are transgender. Because of the community we serve, we are exceedingly committed to anonymity and confidentiality for our callers. In addition to our hotline, our Microgrants program provides low-barrier grants to trans people in need of legal name changes and updated government IDs, as well as specialized support for incarcerated and undocumented trans people. We are a fully remote workplace, working to make our organization equitable, accessible, and joyful.
