Field Service Engineer II

Field Based Role
Burnaby, Vancouver, Alberta, British Columbia - must be willing to travel in territory and beyond
Position Objective
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) performs service on our customers’ laboratory instruments, such as installations, repairs and preventative maintenance in assigned territory. The FSE positively interacts with customers to solve technical problems and ensure their equipment is performing optimally.
Essential Functions
- Performs installation, upgrades, updates, repairs and preventative maintenance service on a variety of instrument models on-site at customer labs
- Displays professionalism, good communication and technical knowledge in all customer interactions
- Collaborates with internal partners to resolve customer issues and improve processes
- Follows established reporting responsibilities of service ticket documentation (C4S), Escalation, Field Problem Report (FPR) and Field Service Report (FSR) submissions
- Is familiar with and follows policies that pertain to the handling of spare parts: ordering, usage, returns, physical count, trunk-stock inventory management, etc.
- Maintains their technical competency level servicing instrument by attending training, staff meetings and remaining up-to-date on new products, markets, customers and competitors
- Interacts with customers to explain & offer the sale of service contracts and other service products
- May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
Education Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology, chemistry or related field, or equivalent work experience and knowledge.
Required qualifications
- Valid driver’s license & passport
- Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident or hold a valid Canadian work permit
- Proficient in English (other languages are an asset, but not required)
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
- Able to exercise sound judgment when setting work priorities
- Collaborates effectively with other Field colleagues to achieve the team’s collective goals
- Quickly adapts to change with positive attitude and constructive feedback
Preferred qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant experience with related science, engineering and/or customer service
- Masters-level degree in related field (eg. biomedical engineering, etc…)
- Experience in a clinical, diagnostics and/or another regulated laboratory environment
- Aptitude for learning and understanding IT systems and processes
- Reside in the metropolitan Vancouver area (within ~50km radius of downtown Vancouver)
Working Conditions
Majority of work is in a scientific laboratory setting, with the balance (admin) in home office. Candidate is required to be able to lift at least 40 lbs. May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties. Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials. Moderately frequent overnight travel required based on workload needs.
