Job description

Process Technician- Production Enginering at Amperesand

Company Overview

Amperesand is reinventing how the world powers its most critical systems.

We are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity for infrastructure disruption. Electricity demand is skyrocketing, driven by AI factories, electric vehicles, and modern industrial growth. Energy supply is shifting to incorporate a more diverse mix of resources – including solar, gas, and batteries – at a massive scale.

And yet the power infrastructure behind our latest mega-projects hasn’t meaningfully changed in nearly 100 years. Supply chains for today’s infrastructure equipment can’t match the pace and sophistication of critical energy projects. Amperesand is building hardware and software that rewrites this broken power infrastructure playbook to support a new era of energy abundance.

We’ve built a new class of intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products leveraging a decade of advanced medium voltage Solid State Transformer research that’s now ready for commercial deployment.

Our products and solutions go far beyond the capabilities of traditional electrical equipment. We make power systems that are faster to deploy, dramatically smaller and more efficient, and capable of supporting modern, dynamic energy needs for tomorrow’s most demanding energy consumers.

Scalable in-house advanced manufacturing capability is our foundation for meeting timeline and quality expectation to serve infrastructure customers around the world.

Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top tier investors who share our vision of building a category-defining energy technology company.

With hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, our global team is laser focused on building foundational technology to solve the most pressing problems in power infrastructure at scale.

Join us in building the power foundation of the future!

Process Technician – Production Engineering

Role Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Process Technician to join our Production Engineering team, supporting the day-to-day execution, sustainment, and improvement of manufacturing processes across our production lines. The ideal candidate is mechanically capable, comfortable working with data, and energized by solving problems on the floor as they happen. This role is about ownership at the line: keeping processes running to standard, catching and containing issues early, and making the line a little better every shift.

This is a floor-facing, hands-on role. You will spend the majority of your time on the production line working alongside Operators, Process Engineers, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure processes are stable, repeatable, and continuously improving. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities

Provide daily coverage of production line processes, responding quickly to out-of-control or out-of-standard conditions to minimize downtime, scrap, and yield loss

Monitor process and equipment performance against established limits; recognize drift or abnormal conditions early and escalate to Process Engineering when a fix falls outside standard work

Troubleshoot process and equipment issues to resolution, performing routine adjustments, changeovers, and first-line repairs to restore production

Lead the identification, containment, and disposition of non-conforming material produced on the line; document defects accurately and support root cause investigations

Execute and support corrective actions, trials, and experiments defined by Process Engineering, including data collection for DOE, capability, and gauge R&R studies

Collect, record, and review process data (SPC charts, yield, scrap, cycle time); flag trends and help translate data into concrete improvement actions

Support the qualification and startup of new equipment, tooling, fixtures, and process changes, including line configuration and verification runs

Draft and revise Manufacturing Instructions and visual work aids; train Operators on new or updated processes and verify they are being followed as written

Own and execute continuous improvement, Lean, and 5S activities at the line — reducing scrap, cycle time, and non-value-added work

Maintain process documentation, logbooks, and change records; support Engineering Change implementation at the line level

Manage line-side parts, consumables, and tooling inventory to keep production supplied and organized

Work safely and hold the line to EHS standards, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and safe work practices; report hazards and near-misses immediately

Qualifications

Associate's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, or a related technical field — or 2+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree

Experience working in a production environment with defined processes, standard work, and quality requirements

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems, and to work confidently with hand and power tools

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and written work instructions

Comfortable collecting and interpreting process data; able to draw sound conclusions from test results, defects, and deviations

Familiarity with structured problem solving (5-Why, Ishikawa, or similar) and a track record of following issues through to a real fix

Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation habits

Clear written and verbal communication; able to hand off issues cleanly across shifts and work effectively with Operators, Engineers, and Quality

Willingness to work flexible hours, including shift work and overtime, to support production needs

Bonus Qualifications

Experience in power electronics, electromechanical, or high-volume automated assembly (energy, automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics)

Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and process capability concepts

Experience with MES, SCADA, or factory data systems for process monitoring and data entry

Lean, 5S, or Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt) training or certification

Experience with soldering, bonding, potting, torque-controlled assembly, or similar controlled processes

Familiarity with GD&T and basic metrology equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges)

Experience authoring work instructions or training Operators

Creative problem-solving mindset — always looking for a faster, better, safer way to run the line

Please note: This role requires working on-site 5 days a week. We do not offer hybrid or remote options.
