SAM Analyst III at Coinbase

As a TMS Compliance Analyst III on the CX Compliance team within Customer Experience, you'll conduct end-to-end transaction monitoring investigations to identify suspicious activity, protect Coinbase from financial crime risk, and ensure compliance with BSA/AML regulatory requirements. This team partners with the Financial Crime Risk Service (FCRS) line and cross-functional stakeholders to maintain the highest production and quality standards across global compliance operations. You'll investigate automated alerts, analyze complex transaction patterns, draft SAR narratives, and apply independent judgment to determine whether customer behavior warrants escalation or filing.

What you'll do

  • Own end-to-end investigative review and analysis of automated transaction monitoring alerts and referrals sourced from law enforcement requests and other Coinbase business lines, in support of BSA/AML regulatory compliance programs.
  • Analyze transaction activity, KYC information, and evidence from external tools and systems to determine the legitimacy of customer behavior across multiple products, recommending whether activity warrants escalation or SAR filing.
  • Draft clear, accurate SAR narratives and maintain detailed investigation documentation to demonstrate compliance with regulations, internal policies, and audit requirements.
  • Incorporate feedback from the Quality Assurance team and participate in calibration sessions to continuously improve investigation accuracy and consistency.
  • Support process improvements within the TMS Compliance function by identifying gaps in procedures, contributing to documentation standards, and staying current with developments in KYC, BSA/AML, and OFAC regulations.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in financial services, crypto, or fintech with a focus on transaction monitoring, BSA/AML compliance, or financial crime investigations.
  • Proven experience drafting and filing Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) with accurate, well-structured narratives that meet regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex transaction patterns across multiple products, apply regulatory requirements to case investigations, and make independent escalation decisions.
  • Familiarity with transaction monitoring systems, KYC/CDD processes, and compliance tools (e.g., Hummingbird, Chainalysis, or similar).
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
