Who we are

The Websites team is responsible for advancing and supporting Toast’s WYSIWYG (What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get) editor for building and hosting websites to showcase the many diverse brands of Toast’s customers. In a highly competitive environment, this team is laser-focused on providing high-converting and truly customizable websites that are easy to build and maintain. We’re behind the websites of some of Toast’s most ambitious customers, like botiwalla.com , eggharbor.cafe , and tens of thousands more.

At the same time, we’re building agentic products that work hand-in-hand with the website builder to manage and grow customer websites by making data-backed recommendations to market their businesses online. These products make the intimidating world of SEO and online marketing approachable and automatic for Toast customers, meaning that they can focus on running their businesses while Toast’s Digital Growth Agent updates their websites using powerful data that helps them stand apart from the competition.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

In this role, you'll get to work on a wide variety of projects, using your technical chops to help Toast Websites’ customers build businesses that thrive online. This is a golden opportunity for a hands-on, entrepreneurial engineer who thrives in a modern tech stack environment, loves solving real-world problems through technology, and is a self-motivated learner. You’ll run experiments, iterate quickly, fix critical issues, and have a voice in shaping the future of online ordering and website building here at Toast. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

• Design, scope, and implement cutting-edge solutions using a mix of technologies.
• Enhance the platform to boost performance, usability, and scalability.
• Collaborate closely with Design and Product stakeholders to ensure we are building the right solutions to the right problems.
• Identify high-impact opportunities with your team and turn them into reality.
• Be an awesome teammate who’s all in on collaboration and collective success.
• Work across teams to ensure that every part of our product ecosystem works seamlessly together to deliver the best possible experience for our customers.
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow, improve velocity, and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• Experienced in developing full stack web applications
• Experience with backend technologies like Node.js and Java/Kotlin.
• Skilled with web fundamentals like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with frontend frameworks like React or Angular, and CSS frameworks like Tailwind or Bootstrap is a plus.
• Experienced with tools like Docker, Git, Bash/ZSH.
• Thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where you ship features together.
• Passionate about writing testable and clean code, with experience in API design and unit/integration testing.
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild.
• Embrace the agile mindset—ship quickly, iterate, and refine.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits. $92,000 — $147,000 USD
