What you’ll do

• Work on the core infrastructure powering Arbitrum, the leading Ethereum scaling solution (20%).
• Tackle complex distributed systems challenges, optimize performance, and contribute to the security and scalability of Arbitrum (10%).
• Collaborate closely with research, product, and blockchain engineering teams, working at the cutting edge of blockchain technology alongside world-class engineers, including many industry leaders (10%).
• Provide ongoing technical support and engineering guidance to clients and internal stakeholders by diagnosing and resolving core platform engineering issues related to the company’s infrastructure and distributed systems (10%).
• Maintain the Nitro Testnode product, a development tool used by users to run local Arbitrum nodes, including implementing enhancements, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring reliability and usability for developers (10%).
• Conduct peer code reviews for engineering contributions to ensure code quality, architectural consistency, and adherence to software engineering best practices across the platform (15%).
• Establish and evangelize backend architectural standards, selection of tech stacks, and engineering best practices (5%).
• Design high-performance compiler pipelines and extensible SDK frameworks (10%).
• Work in collaboration with Security to resolve complex security issues and identify potential threats and vulnerabilities in code in distributed systems environments (5%).
• Drive the technical roadmap with the Product team for complex distributed systems and data modeling, overseeing the integration of multiple microservices, ensuring database scalability and integrity under high load, and designing "API-first" strategies that ensure longterm system interoperability (5%).

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• Plus 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Architect, or any occupation, job title, position designing, developing, and securing blockchain-based backend systems.
• In lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of experience, the employer will accept a Master's degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 3 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Architect, or any occupation, job title, position designing, developing, and securing blockchain-based backend systems.
• 3 years of professional experience developing backend systems utilizing backend programming languages (including Go or Rust)
• 3 years working on protocols that span from L1s to L2s, including when the system is trying to reduce dependence on L1 smart contracts
• 3 years of professional experience collaborating with research teams to conduct cutting-edge research in blockchain technologies and cryptocurrency platforms
• 3 years of professional experience building distributed systems, focusing on reliable broadcast protocols, distributed data structures, and high-performance database storage engines
• 3 years of professional experience working in collaboration with security and with coding in a security-focused mindset in distributed systems environments
• 3 years of professional experience working with blockchain protocols
• 1 year of experience working with WebAssembly, including writing high performant and high security code in production environments
• 1 year of professional experience utilizing cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies (including AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes).

Position is 100% remote; must reside in U.S.; reports to HQ in New York, NY. Salary: $193,461 - $291,000 per year.
