Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead at Talkspace

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead to join our Engineering team. The Senior Software Engineer, Tech Lead is responsible for leading software engineering teams to successfully develop and implement features, troubleshoot technical challenges, and manage product releases. This role involves planning large tasks, delegating work effectively, and ensuring high code quality through rigorous pull request reviews. The Tech Lead is accountable for delivering complex, production-ready features to QA, addressing roadblocks with persistence, and collaborating with team members to solve problems. With expertise in at least one coding area (backend, frontend, or devops), they ensure alignment with industry standards and promote a big-picture understanding of business challenges. This role also mentors junior engineers, supports hiring and training, and drives continuous improvements in code quality, system health, and QA practices. The Tech Lead fosters transparency within the team, communicates technical decisions clearly, and works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the timely and successful completion of projects. This is a remote position based on Eastern Time. Talkspace Headquarters is located in NYC.

What you’ll do

  • Leadership & Project Management
  • Leads software engineering teams by guiding feature development, troubleshooting technical issues, and managing product releases.
  • Plans large tasks and delegates work to team members to ensure effective execution.
  • Takes responsibility for code quality assurance, reviewing pull requests to maintain high code standards and adherence to guidelines.
  • Ensures the delivery of complex, production-ready features to QA, minimizing bugs and improving code quality.

  • Helps ensure consistency and quality in the codebase through pull request reviews and feedback.
  • Advocates for and enforces proper QA practices across the projects involved.
  • Communication & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Collaborates with team members to identify and solve technical challenges.
  • Creates an environment where team members feel motivated to ask questions, voice concerns, and contribute ideas.
  • Serves as a liaison between engineering, management, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project completion.
  • Effectively communicates technical decisions through design documents, technical discussions, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Provides mentorship to junior engineers through pairing, feedback, and regular 1:1 meetings.
  • Communicates proactively with cross-functional teams, including product management and business teams, to address project needs and potential issues.
  • Identifies and communicates potential project risks and requirements issues to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math.
  • 6+ years of professional experience working in both react and node.js
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting teams or collaborating with subject matter experts, with a focus on contributing to team success and learning from leadership.
  • Strong technical expertise and understanding of industry trends, with the ability to provide insights and assistance to the team when needed.

Compensation

At Talkspace, we believe that pay transparency during the interview process is a critical part of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our salary bands are based on internal and external compensation benchmarks, which we regularly evaluate to ensure we pay competitively.

The base salary range for this role is between $175,000 - $215,000. Within the salary bands, leveling corresponds to each candidate’s relevant experience, skills as assessed during the interview process, education, and applicable certifications.
