Job description

Senior Benefit Advocate - Cigna Healthcare - Remote at Cigna Health & Life Ins. Co.

Role at a glance: This senior individual contributor ensures client benefit intent is accurately translated from sold plan documents into Crystal-generated Plan Information Forms and downstream Diamond configuration. The role combines benefit expertise, quality review, consulting, and independent problem-solving across new business, renewals, upsells, and midyear plan changes.

Position Summary

The Senior Benefit Advocate performs complex quality assurance and benefit configuration work supporting Cigna Global Health Benefits. This role reviews client plan information, validates benefit accuracy and compliance, and ensures Plan Information Forms (PIFs) produced through the Salesforce Benefit Configuration Tool, Crystal, are complete and ready for downstream implementation in Diamond. The analyst serves as a benefits subject-matter resource and works with Sales, Client Management, Underwriting, Contracts, Benefits, and Operations to resolve issues and protect the client and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review sold plan documents, PIFs, and supporting materials to confirm client intent, product standards, and applicable requirements before implementation.
  • Use Crystal daily to review, enter, and update benefit information for new business, renewals, upsells, maintenance requests, and off-cycle changes.
  • Apply strong Diamond knowledge to understand how benefits are configured at the MEDDEF level, anticipate downstream impacts, and identify discrepancies before claims or member materials are affected.
  • Participate in installation and expert-team meetings, explain benefit findings, and provide clear recommendations to commercial and operational partners.
  • Validate that PIF information aligns with what was sold and supports accurate downstream setup, contract documentation, certificates, and claim payment.
  • Research complex benefit questions, resolve quality issues, and coordinate corrections with client-facing and benefits teams.
  • Advise Sales and Client Management on nonstandard benefit options and appropriate Crystal entry.
  • Complete quality reviews within daily deadlines while managing multiple priorities and sensitive implementation timelines.
  • Support user acceptance testing, process improvements, and enhancements to Crystal, Diamond-related workflows, documentation, and team procedures.
  • Work independently through situations without a fully documented process, using sound judgment and escalating questions when appropriate.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of healthcare, benefits, benefit configuration, claims, implementation, or related experience.
  • Experience working within Cigna Global Health Benefits or a closely related internal benefits operation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Diamond, including the ability to interpret benefit configuration and understand downstream impacts at the MEDDEF level.
  • Solid knowledge of medical, dental, vision, IEAP, life, accidental death and dismemberment, supplemental, dependent, and other ancillary benefits.
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical-thinking, and quality-review skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, make informed decisions, and work independently with moderate supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence working with Sales and commercial partners.
  • Ability to organize competing priorities, meet daily deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in a Windows-based environment.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with Salesforce and Crystal. Direct Crystal experience is preferred, but training can be provided to candidates with relevant Salesforce exposure and strong benefits knowledge.
  • Experience reading client plan documents, PIFs, certificates, or other benefit implementation materials.
  • Experience supporting new business installations, renewals, or plan maintenance for quality assurance.
  • Some college coursework.

Success in This Role

The successful candidate is collaborative, action-oriented, adaptable, comfortable asking questions, and capable of owning complex work without step-by-step direction. They communicate clearly with technical and client-facing partners and connect benefit decisions in Crystal to downstream configuration in Diamond.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 68,700 - 114,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
