Job description

Director of Procurement (Remote) at Rula

We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.

We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.

We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.

Rula is a remote-first company. We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.

About the role

As our Procurement Director, you will be the senior procurement leader for the company, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. You will own how Rula buys, from the first intake request to the final contract renewal, leading strategic sourcing initiatives and negotiating complex vendor contracts that deliver fair pricing, clear terms, and strong service levels.

You will also take ownership of our Zip procurement platform, improving intake routing, approval speed, and the experience for the teams who use it, while staying on top of new tools and using AI and automation to make procurement faster and easier. Financial transparency is central to the role: you will analyze spend, build financial models, and partner closely with Finance so purchasing decisions align with budget. You will create a proactive renewal tracking system and maintain a complete, auditable record of vendor commitments, so no contract auto-renews or lapses by surprise.

You will work closely with colleagues across Legal, Privacy, AI, Security, and Finance to support business needs while maintaining legal and financial standards. Together, you will build a clear, efficient, and supportive purchasing process across the entire company.

Required qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive procurement experience, including at least 7 years dedicated to strategic sourcing, with a demonstrated track record of both hands-on sourcing execution and leading/managing procurement teams.
  • Contract Negotiation & Sourcing: Proven track record of drafting, negotiating, and managing commercial contracts to deliver fair terms, value, and risk mitigation.
  • Financial Analysis & Budgeting: Strong background in spend analysis, financial modeling, and aligning purchasing decisions with company budget requirements. Highly analytical approach to assessing procurement needs, evaluating supplier performance, and generating data-driven recommendations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong partnership skills with a track record of understanding core business needs and aligning with Legal, Privacy, AI, Security, and Finance teams.
  • Governance & Renewal Management: Practical understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, along with experience creating clear, auditable tracking systems for contract renewals and obligations.
  • Project & Priority Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent sourcing projects, vendor reviews, and deadlines effectively.
  • Thriving in Fast-Paced Environments: Ability to create clarity, structure, and priorities in dynamic or rapidly changing environments.

Preferred qualifications

While having the preferred qualifications enhances your candidacy, having all of them is not mandatory. We encourage all interested applicants to apply, even those who may not meet every preferred requirement.

  • Experience using or optimizing the Zip procurement intake platform.
  • Prior experience working within the healthcare or health-tech industry.
  • Scaling Systems & Processes: Experience evolving operational systems and purchasing workflows from transactional setups into scalable, enterprise-grade capabilities.
  • Enterprise Alignment: Demonstrated ability to connect procurement initiatives directly to broader organizational goals, multi-year business strategies, and financial models.
  • Change Leadership: Experience driving user adoption for new processes or platforms (like Zip) across teams with varying technical or procurement familiarity.

We're serious about your well-being! As part of our team, full-time employees receive:

  • 100% remote work environment: Working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you can meet both professional and personal commitments (must be based in United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii)
  • Attractive pay and benefits: Full transparency of pay ranges regardless of where you live in the United States
  • Comprehensive health benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA
  • 401(k) plan access: Start saving for your future
  • Generous time-off policies: Including 2 company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care (for most employees)
  • Paid parental leave: Available for all parents, including birthing, non-birthing, adopting, and fostering
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Supporting your mental and physical health
  • Quarterly department stipend: Fun team-building activities or in-person gatherings
  • Community and employee resource groups: Participate in groups that celebrate employee identity and lived experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging for all
  • Home office stipend: New hire home office stipend & $50 monthly stipend to help cover internet or cell phone expenses
  • Wellness at Rula program: Year-round wellness initiatives and a $50/month wellness stipend

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental to our mission of making mental healthcare work for everyone. We are dedicated to having a culture of inclusion that will support our employees in feeling safe, seen, heard, and valued.
