As an Inland Marine Underwriter in property casualty insurance, you’ll develop, grow and maintain diversified books of business while working closely with agents and brokers to assess risks, determine premiums, set conditions and negotiate deals that maximize profitability and meet business goals.

This is a ranged posting and level offered will be based on candidate experience at manager discretion.

**Ideal candidate will be located in the South Texas area. However the position is open for a remote experienced underwriter outside of the territory**

  • Strategic Account Manager : As part of your portfolio strategy, you’ll ensure a profitable Inland Marine book of business by writing new accounts and growing successful agent and broker relationships and pursuing renewals
  • Problem solver : You’ll crunch the numbers and review the data to determine risk selection, premiums, policies and conditions, as well as identify opportunities for improved growth, profit and diversification
  • Clear communicator : You’ll maintain and nurture successful relationships with agents and brokers, while presenting proposals, negotiating deals and obtaining approvals
  • Collaborative teammate : Contributing to overall team success, you’ll mentor underwriters in both a technical and professional capacity—sharing best practices and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Conscientious professional : Understanding that the deal isn’t done until the paperwork is complete, you’ll document account reviews, state-compliant sign-offs and referrals, letters of authority and follow underwriting guidelines

Ideal Experience Includes

  • An aptitude for building rewarding relationships with agents and brokers, peer underwriters, underwriting assistants, and junior underwriters
  • Understanding of contract language, including regulatory and policy differences among applicable states
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement processes and tools
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong desk management, collaboration, and underwriting discipline

Qualifications

  • Intermediate-level knowledge of insurance products/coverage, market segments and marketplace; insurance finance and actuarial concepts; loss control/risk engineering; marketing/selling techniques, regulatory environment and reinsurance
  • Advanced-level knowledge of underwriting, pricing, risk selection, territory management.
  • Ability to apply underwriting/appetite, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems, establish and build healthy working relationships, participate in mentoring relationships, and negotiate as normally acquired through a related bachelor`s degree or 5-8 years of commercial lines underwriting experience preferred;
  • CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred.
