Job description

Compliance Business Partner at Wonolo

Wonolo (Work Now Locally) is disrupting the $140BN temporary staffing industry. Founded in 2014, Wonolo's mission is to help people find consistent work. Through our two-sided tech marketplace, we connect hundreds of businesses in need of front-line workers with 2 million underemployed workers in local markets across the United States, within minutes. Wonolo has raised over $200M in funding which will continue to help us empower the in-demand workforce by democratizing access to flexible work, opportunities to learn new skills, a living wage, and comprehensive portable benefits and perks.

As a Compliance Business Partner , you will support our Trust & Safety team on serious worker escalations and help manage the workers' compensation program for the Worker community. This is a fully remote U.S. role reporting to the Manager of Trust & Safety, within the Legal and Compliance organization. You will work closely with Trust & Safety, Compliance and customer-facing teams.

This is a fit for an early-career HR or employee relations professional who wants to learn to handle sensitive worker cases and manage workers' compensation programs.

We welcome qualified candidates located anywhere in the United States #LI-Remote.

What you'll do

Handling escalated worker incidents

  • Act as a point of contact for escalated worker concerns, triaging for severity, urgency and legal exposure
  • Support investigations into harassment, discrimination, retaliation and other serious concerns, documenting findings for manager review
  • Work with Trust & Safety to de-escalate and resolve cases, and escalate matters needing counsel to Legal
  • Track incident patterns, support the T&S manager in identifying trends, and provide process recommendations

Support workers' compensation strategy, process and claims

  • Review loss runs and claim trends and share recommendations to reduce frequency and cost
  • Handle working with our workers compensation partners and assigning new worker compensation codes
  • Assist with day-to-day claims where needed: intake, carrier and adjuster coordination, tracking and follow-up
  • Document the claims workflow and suggest improvements
  • Issue certificates of insurance (COIs) as needed

Support compliance and process improvement

  • Learn customer program operations and flag co-employment risk to Legal and leadership
  • Assist in HR and compliance audits as needed

Who you are

  • 1– 3 years of HR experience, ideally in employee relations, HR operations or compliance
  • Exposure to documenting or investigating harassment, discrimination or retaliation complaints, or a strong interest in learning how
  • Foundational knowledge of employment law, and judgment about when to ask Legal or your manager for help
  • Familiarity with workers' compensation, or a strong ability to learn it quickly
  • Clear writing, including procedures or playbooks, and strong collaboration skills
  • A self-starter who improves processes, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and is committed to the worker experience
  • You care about the worker experience, stay calm in sensitive situations, and want to build a career in employee relations and compliance.

If you have read up to this point, we hope you are excited about this opportunity to work at Wonolo! Even if your experience does not check every bullet point, we still highly encourage you to apply. The best hires do not always check off every box of a job description.

Nice to Haves

  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) or workplace investigator training
  • Staffing, gig or other contingent-workforce experience
  • Familiarity with co-employment, insurance or risk management
