You’ll primarily support optical emission spectroscopy (OES) , x-ray florescence (XRF) , and x-ray diffraction (XRD) systems. These technologies help customers understand material composition, improve product quality, make faster process decisions, and keep critical operations running.

This is a highly independent, customer-facing role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems in the field.

What you’ll do

  • Install, repair, maintain, qualify, and validate OES, XRF, and XRD systems at customer sites.

  • Perform preventative maintenance to support instrument reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Manage service calls, parts inventory, and service documentation through customer management systems.
  • Serve as a technical connection between customers and Thermo Fisher teams, including Technical Support, Sales, and Engineering.
  • Provide equipment operation and safety training to customers and colleagues.

What You’ll Bring

Education and experience

  • High school diploma with 4+ years of hands-on experience in field service, technical support, analytical instrumentation, or a related technical environment; or Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working with optical emission spectroscopy (OES) , x-ray florescence (XRF) , or x-ray diffraction (XRD) instrumentation is a strong plus.

Key Skills

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting scientific, analytical, or other complex technical equipment.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple service requests and maintain clear documentation.
  • Comfortable working at customer locations and managing a travel-intensive territory.

Travel and Physical Requirements

  • Travel up to 70–75% within Southwest US and other areas as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. with assistance and regularly lift/carry 25–30 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions.
  • Comfortable working in varied customer-site environments.
