We're looking for a technical engineering manager to lead a team building and operating large-scale distributed systems. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong operational instincts and a passion for building high-performing teams.

You will lead the Dedicated Platform Integration team, responsible for the integration of third-party and modular features in the GitLab ecosystem, for Dedicated platform hosted SaaS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enable effective execution with Quality and Speed, in partnership with the team’s Product Manager
  • Ensure 3+ 9s availability of Dedicated infrastructure, ensuring security and automating for maximum scalability and number of tenants.
  • Provide clear direction, meaningful feedback and foster an environment where meaningless toil gets ruthlessly automated and Devops ownership is enforced.
  • Continuously improved owned artifacts in a direction of optimizing platforms for self-service ownership of production for feature implementers.
  • Recruitment, onboarding and development of excellent and productive team members.
  • Be a role model for the team: provide Proof of concepts, agentic mindset and extreme simplification of processes and removal of human toil. Show and Tell, not only Tell.
  • Role model Incident Management best-practices, lead in fast resolutions, escalations and train and codify best practices to the whole of GitLab
  • Data driven approach to prioritization, impact quantification and management of risk and technical debt.Able to use AI to demonstrate concepts and translate technical complexity to drive stakeholder decisions.

What you'll bring

  • Proven track record building and owning large-scale distributed services, with the technical depth to dive into architecture and guide the team on technical strategy
  • Experience in driving operational excellence and you've owned services running at four-nines (99.99%) SLOs and know what it takes to keep them there
  • Experience leveraging AI tooling to boost team productivity, with real lessons learned from both wins and missteps
  • A history of building and managing high-performing, accountable team cultures, including managing out when necessary
  • Comfort driving complex projects to completion without relying on a dedicated TPM
  • Experience leading distributed and remote teams effectively
