Role

We’re looking for a Team Lead, Testing Operations to join our rapidly growing consumer health tech startup. This individual will be focusing on optimizing and managing the internal processes that move member results and requisitions forward, ensuring smooth, day-to-day testing operations. This role will be responsible for overseeing the results and requisition lifecycle, managing a team of Ops Associates, and ensuring reliable coverage across our core testing operations workflows.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for triaging and escalating operational issues, tracking and reporting performance metrics, and managing the optimization of existing processes. You’ll work closely with internal, cross-functional teams to ensure the execution of high-quality, reliable operations that meet internal expectations and drive a great member experience.

The ideal candidate will be meticulous in their attention to detail, a problem solver and critical thinker, and skilled at taking processes from good to great — iterating quickly, identifying efficiencies, and raising the quality bar without cutting corners. They're comfortable leveraging AI tools to work smarter and drive greater efficiency, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment.

This role is best suited for someone energized by owning end-to-end operational workflows, motivated by leading and developing a team of Ops Associates, and driven to build reliable testing operations that deliver a great member experience — all while deeply believing in Function's mission. If you're looking for meaningful challenges, dynamic work, and the opportunity to make a real impact—we’d love to meet you.

Responsibilities

  • Support Daily Operations: Execute and maintain day-to-day operational workflows — including overseeing the TNP process, managing the QC requisitions queue, and overseeing order generation via the Admin UI order management queue — with a focus on reliability, accuracy, and timeliness in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Issue Triage and Resolution: Monitor and triage operational issues — including ensuring coverage for member results and clinician notes inquiries via Intercom — coordinate with internal teams to troubleshoot, and escalate when needed to minimize disruption.
  • Data Tracking and Reporting: Collaborate with internal team members by supporting data collection and analyzing trends that impact member experience.
  • Process Maintenance and Optimization: Identify inefficiencies in testing operations (results & requisition lifecycle) workflows, and identify and drive forward continuous improvement opportunities to increase efficiency, consistency, and scale.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with clinical partnerships, operations, and product teams to support the implementation of new processes and communicate operational needs.
  • Team Management: Manage a team of Jr. Ops Associates and Ops Associates, ensuring coverage across all testing operations workflows.
  • Documentation and SOPs: Maintain up-to-date documentation for operational procedures and support the development of new standard operating procedures as needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in operations roles with experience leading teams and scaling processes in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, logistics, or similarly regulated, process-driven fields.
  • Comfortable managing operational challenges, proactively identifying issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to find solutions.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to quickly learn and navigate tools, systems, and workflows.
  • Clear and effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments is a plus.
  • Analytical thinker with a sharp eye for detail—able to interpret data, recognize patterns, and support continuous improvement.
  • Highly organized and dependable; skilled at managing multiple priorities and following through on execution.
  • A team player who can take ownership of their work while contributing to broader team goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior education or experience in the health and medical space strongly preferred
  • Start-up experience, particularly in early-stage technology companies.
  • Familiarity with healthcare or wellness industry design considerations.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets (Google Sheets and Excel), CRM systems, and ability to learn internal tools

To be a strong fit, you embody our Core Values:

  • Ruthless Prioritization:
  • We don’t let perfect get in the way of progress.
  • We move quickly to drive value, not perfection.
  • We prioritize what drives impact.

  • Mission Over Ego:
  • We are ruthlessly aligned to our mission– and leave ego at the door.
  • We disagree and commit.

  • We operate with honesty, transparency, and respect.
  • Sustained Integrity in Every Detail:
  • We earn trust by obsessing over accuracy, quality, and clarity in everything we do.
