Overview
The Loss Mitigation Manager is responsible for the leadership, oversight, and performance of an assigned Loss Mitigation functional area, including Underwriting or Closing. This position manages a large and complex loss mitigation pipeline, ensuring timely borrower assistance, regulatory compliance, investor adherence, quality performance, and achievement of service level objectives. The manager is accountable for operational results across a substantial portfolio of active loss mitigation activities and is responsible for balancing productivity, borrower outcomes, client requirements, and risk management. The role serves as a subject matter expert across all Loss Mitigation programs and solutions.
Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Lead and manage an assigned Loss Mitigation function, including Underwriting or Closing.
- Ensure achievement of productivity, quality, cycle time, and service level expectations.
- Monitor pipeline performance and address process bottlenecks to improve operational efficiency.
- Manage escalated borrower, client, investor, and operational issues.
Loss Mitigation Expertise
- Maintain advanced knowledge of all Loss Mitigation products and programs, including:
- Loan Modifications
- Deferrals
- Partial Claims
- Repayment Plans
- FHA, VA, USDA, GSE, and proprietary retention solutions
- Provide guidance on complex eligibility, decisioning, documentation, and execution requirements.
- Support implementation of new investor products, regulatory requirements, and business initiatives.
Compliance, Risk, and Quality
- Ensure compliance with investor, insurer, client, federal, state, and company requirements.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Quality teams to address audit findings and process improvements.
- Monitor quality performance and implement corrective action plans when needed.
- Establish and maintain operational controls designed to mitigate risk.
Process Improvement & Strategic Initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, borrower experience, and operational effectiveness.
- Participate in system enhancements, automation initiatives, testing efforts, and process redesign.
- Utilize performance reporting and analytics to drive operational improvements.
- Assist in developing policies, procedures, and operational standards.
Leadership & People Development
- Manage supervisors, team leaders, and/or individual contributors.
- Coach and develop employees to maximize performance and career growth.
- Build bench strength and succession plans within the department.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 7+ years of mortgage servicing or Loss Mitigation experience.
- 5+ years of leadership experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in loss mitigation underwriting, closing, or execution functions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of investor and insurer programs, including FHA, VA, USDA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and proprietary products.
- Advanced Loss Mitigation subject matter expertise.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage complex operational issues and drive results.

- Experience implementing operational or technology initiatives preferred.
